There are various reasons why accidents and collisions happen on Illinois’ roads and highways. These include driver related errors like fatigue, aggressive driving such as tailgating or speeding, inattention like the use of cell phone while driving, and drug and alcohol use. However, accountability does not start and end only with the driver of the truck. The shipping or trucking company has a crucial responsibility in ensuring that the truck is inspected, tested, and maintained in accordance with regulations and industry standards.

ISBA President Terrence J. Lavin likened the series of forums to a DARE program. “Dare a lawyer to be a professional,” he urged the 40 lawyers and judges who attended in Peoria (see photo).
“Dare a lawyer to stand up and be a person of character and integrity,” Lavin said, adding that there is a problem that needs to be addressed. “Winning at all costs implies that you are willing to slant the truth, bend the rules or care less about the rights of others who are involved.”
